Bali Botanic Garden

Nestled in the heart of Bali, the Bali Botanic Garden (Indonesian: Kebun Raya Bali) stands as the largest botanic garden in Indonesia. Situated in the mountainous region of Bedugul, Tabanan Regency, this verdant sanctuary lies approximately 90 minutes drive north of Denpasar. Established on 15 July 1959, the garden is elevated around 1300 meters above sea level, providing breathtaking views over Bratan Lake and the Ulun Danu Temple on the picturesque slopes of Tapak Hill.

The Bali Botanic Garden serves as a hub for botanical research, conservation, education, and recreation, operated under the auspices of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). Spanning an impressive 157.5 hectares (389 acres), the garden boasts a diverse climate with daytime temperatures ranging from 17 - 25 °C and nighttime temperatures dropping to 10 - 15 °C. The humidity level here averages between 70-90%, fostering a lush, thriving environment for plant life.

Visitors to the garden will be enchanted by its vast collection of over 21,000 living specimens across 2,400 species, predominantly from mountainous regions of eastern Indonesia, including Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. The garden also houses an extensive herbarium with 10,000 preserved plant specimens ranging from algae to flowering plants. Among its myriad attractions are collections of orchids, ferns, cacti, and carnivorous plants, as well as one of the world's largest displays of begonias in the conservatory building.

One compelling reason to visit the Bali Botanic Garden is its unique blend of natural beauty, scientific discovery, and cultural heritage. The traditional Balinese-style guesthouse within the garden offers a serene retreat for visitors, while the meticulously curated plant collections provide insight into Indonesia's rich botanical diversity. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a scientist, or simply seeking tranquility, the Bali Botanic Garden promises a rejuvenating and informative experience amidst some of Bali's most stunning landscapes.
